The Telangana Agriculture Department bagged India Today Agri Award as the State had registered the fastest growth in agriculture sector in the country. The award selection committee of India Today Group informed Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy about the selection and requested him to attend a function in New Delhi on June 23 to collect the award from Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh.

The Minister said it was to the credit of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao who thought of farmers’ welfare in every step he took. “The Chief Minister has introduced several novel schemes for the betterment of the farming community and the award will bring nationwide recognition to the State and its programmes,” he said.

Besides, the supply of farm mechanization equipment with the subsidy, the appointment of one agriculture extension officer for every 5,000 acres of farmland and supply of micro irrigation implements with subsidy up to 90% were among a slew of measures taken by the Telangana State Government, he said.
