The Film Critic Kathi Mahesh Arrested on Monday night from his house in Hyderabad, by Banjara Hills police for allegedly making a derogatory remark against Lord Sri Rama during a debate in Telugu News Channel recently. Yesterday Mahesh Kathi wrote on his Facebook, “I am at Banjarahills Hills PS for the enquiry.”
Telugu actor and film critic Mahesh Kathi has found himself in the centre of a storm for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Lord Sri Rama and Sita in a debate in a Telugu news channel. Hindu activists, along with an advocate filed cases against Mahesh Kathi. Apart from Saidabad, complaints were lodged against the film critic Kathi Mahesh at Vanasthalipuram, KPHB and Banjara Hills too.
On Monday, Speaking to media, Sri Peetham (Kakinada) Seer Swami Paripoornananda demanded that the State government issue an arrest warrant against Kathi Mahesh and take him into custody for hurting the sentiments of the Hindus. He added that Mahesh Kathi has no right to hurt the sentiments of other religion.
He said that If Mahesh Kathi would not be arrested within 24 hours, he along with other Swamijis and Hindu organizations would take up movement. Adding Human Rights activist, rationalist, and Bigg Boss season 2 contestant Rajaji Ramnadh Babu Gogineni to the list of such persons, Swami Paripoornananda said that none of them had the right to criticise the Hindu culture and traditions.
After registering cases, Kathi Mahesh arrested Banjara Hills police on Monday midnight in Hyderabad. The cop booked case under Sections 295 a (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or reliÂgious beliefs) and 505 (statements disturbing public tranquillity) of the Indian Penal Code.
ACP K Srinivasa Rao has questioned Mahesh Kathi over his statement against Lord Sri Rama and Sita. Recently during a debate, Mahesh Kathi said, “For me, Ramayana is just a book and Sri Rama is a character. I believe Rama is a cheater. I wish Sita lived with Ravana and maybe that would have brought her justice.”
